Background

Puntland Livestock Professionals Association (PULPA) is a non-governmental, non-political, and non-profit-making organization formed in 2002 by livestock professionals to provide relief and assistance to pastoral and agropastoral communities and their livestock in the Puntland State of Somalia. The association unites livestock sector professionals that operate in Puntland.

Over the years since its inception, PULPA together with government and international partners have been involved in inclusive participatory community services including livestock treatments and vaccination campaigns, training of community-based animal health workers, interventions in response to droughts, disease surveillance and control, community awareness, and mobilizations, environmental protection and livestock redistribution programs.

The association’s thematic areas converge with relevant Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) including 1 (NO POVERTY), 2 (ZERO HANGER), 3 (GOOD HEALTH AND WELL-BEING), 13 (CLIMATE ACTION) and Global Agenda for Sustainable Livestock.

In this regard, PULPA has remained a committed partner for the government and international organizations to harness resources and talents available to improve the livestock sector through livelihood support, capacity building, and research using the One Health approach.

With headquarters in Garowe and sub-offices in Galkaio and Bosaso, PULPA has permanent representatives across districts of Puntland.
